Melrose Brazil nut and Linseed spread

Melrose Brazil nut and Linseed spread

Brazil nuts are sweet tasting and an excellent source of selenium, a vital mineral and antioxidant that may help prevent heart disease. The inclusion of this natural source of selenium in our diets is important as it is an element in which Australian soils are notably deficient. They are called Brazil nuts because they're the seeds of a very large tree from the Amazon rainforest. Brazil nuts for international trade come entirely from wild collection rather than from cultivated nut farms.

Linseed, better known for its Flaxseed oil, is the richest natural source of plant lignans, as well as being an excellent source of soluble and insoluble fibre. It is also the richest plantsource of Omega-3 fatty acids. We are becoming more aware of the importance of this essential fat in our diets and its role in protecting our bodies against the stresses we encounter daily. Omega-3 is as important as protein, minerals and vitamins and Flaxseeds contain 50% more Omega-3 than fish oil.

Hints and tips

Why is there oil in the top of the jar?

Melrose nut spreads are made from 100% lightly roasted nuts. Unlike most peanut butters the natural oils in Melrose nut spreads are not subjected to hydrogenation. In normal spreads this hydrogenation turns liquid oils into solids so that they will not separate out. However hydrogenation also produces Trans fatty acids and these have negative health effects.

  • Melrose nut spreads contain only natural oils.
  • Melrose Nut spreads contain no hydrogenated Oils.
  • Melrose nut spreads contain no Trans fats.

When using Melrose nut spreads, simply stir in the natural oils. Do not pour off the oil as this will leave you with a dry spread.
